Can anyone join ImageStoreUK?

Although ImageStoreUK is aimed primarily at professional and semi-professional photographers, anybody is free to register and submit sample images. However, it is entirely up to the discretion of the ImageStoreUK editorial team as to whether or not a submission will be accepted. Once your sample images have been accepted for inclusion on the image library, you will automatically be given access to the mass 'drag n drop' uploader. This web page (accessible from your admin area) allows you to select images from your computer and drag them onto the web page for rapid uploading.

Can I submit any sort of image?

Within reason... Firstly, the image has to be of your own creation. i.e you took it! Secondly, the images has to be of sufficient quality - at least 2mb as a compressed jpeg, without any dust marks or signs of over compression. Thirdly, the image has to be saleable, by which we mean that if we consider your image has little chance of making a sale, we simply won't accept it. So, no out of focus images of your pet please! Pornographic or images of violence, will of course, be rejected.

Is ImageStoreUK for UK images only?

No it is not. We are happy to accept images from anywhere on the globe. However, we prefer images that reflect the UK market. By which we mean, we prefer images which reflect UK lifestyles, rather than (say) images that reflect North American or Pacific lifestyles. If in doubt, take a look at an American image library and you'll get the idea... Why do we make this preference? Because we are selling primarily to the UK market.

Who decides which images are acceptable for inclusion?

The ImageStoreUK editorial team are responsibe for accepting or failing submissions. Their decision is based entirely upon whether a submitted image has a reasonable chance of making a sale. ImageStoreUK is not an image repository, it is a commercial image library. So,there is really no point in submitting images which have no chance of generating an income. The editors decision is final - sorry that's just the way it is!

Does the fact that ImageStoreUK is an 'edited' image library increase the chance of making a sale?

We certainly hope so... Because our editorial team have weeded out images which are simply not commercially viable, all the images visible to clients have a better chance of a sale and a better chance of being seen. Which is an improvement on some image libraries!

Are you selling both licenced and royalty-free images to clients?

Yes. The ImageStoreUK web application allows for the sale of licenced as well as royalty-free images.

What is the difference between licenced and royalty-free images?

Royalty free images are images that once purchased, may be used multiple times by the same client, without them needing to purchase that image again. Licensed images are images that may puchased for a specific use for a limited period. They are preferable for marketing campaigns where exclusive image use is required. The client has to purchase another licence if they wish to use that image for a different purpose other than the one they originally paid for.

So why would I submit my images as royalty-free when it looks like I can earn more with all my images being submited as licenced images?

Because royalty-free images far out sell licenced images.... You are far more likely to sell a good image many times over as a royalty-free image as opposed to a licenced image. However, there may be times (for example when you have invested a lot of time and money in a photo shoot), where it is more appropiate to aim your image at the licenced market. Licenced images generally sell less often, but for higher fees.

Is the 55% commission for contributors the same for both royalty-free and licenced images?

Yes. The 55% commission remains the same, regardless of whether the image was sold as a licenced or royalty-fee image. You get a straight 55% of the value of any sale.

How soon after a sale could I expect payment?

The vast majority of ImageStoreUK sales are online sales. These are processed by WorldPay/RBS. It usually takes 28 days for online credit card sales to be processed and funds cleared to ImageStoreUK's account. We would like it to be much sooner, but that's the way the banks work unfortunately. As soon as the funds have cleared, we will transfer your commission to your PayPal account. Which is why each contributor must set up a PayPal account, so that we can easily transfer their fees. There is no minimum amount below which we will not make a transter. So, in short, as soon as we get the payment we will pass your fees on to you.

What's involved in setting up a Paypal account?

Setting up a Paypal account is very straightforward. Click here. Simply use their secure system to create a Paypal account (if you don't already have one). Use your admin area to let us know the name of your Paypal account. Thereafter, we can easily transfer your funds to you. It's simple, effective and there are millions of people happily using Paypal for online money transfers.

Is there a limit to the number of images I can submit to ImageStoreUK?

No there isn't. So long as the images you submit are commerciably viable we will accept them, no matter how many. However, we will not accept and may remove images that will not sell or are clearly not being viewed by clients. The editors decision is final!

Do all images submitted have to have a model release or property release?

If an image includes clearly identifiable people or property, then you should be in possession of a signed model or property release. Clients expect a model or property release assigned to an image and the chance of a sale is far greater if you have one. If you do not have a suitable model release or property release, we may still accept your submission. However, we shall have to mark the image as 'editorial use only', which means that your image may be used in newspapers and magazines only (where the copyright and privacy laws are slightly different). Do NOT mark your image as having a suitable release when it doesn't. ImageStoreUK will take legal action against any fraudulant submissions. So in short, always get a property or model release for your image!

Can I submit the same images to ImageStoreUK as well as other image libraries?

Yes you can. ImageStoreUK is not an exclusive image library. So you can submit the same images to us as you have submitted to other online image libaries (check the terms of any agreement you have with another image library first). If you make a licenced image sale via another image library let us know. We will then suspend that image for the duration of the licence. Of course, the same is true if we sell a licenced image you have posted on another image library. Be sure you let them know the details of the sale, so that they too can suspend your licenced image.

When I upload my images will the imbedded metadata be read?

Yes. The ImageStoreUK system will read the 'Caption' and 'Keyword' IPTC data from your images (if you have embedded the information into your image).
